Handiscover launches Accessibility Management Program

Handiscover’s webinar marks the launch of our Accessibility Management Program which calls for greater accessibility & disability action among businesses.

On the UN International Day for Disabled People, 3rd of December, 2020, Handiscover Accessibility held a webinar to mark the launch of our Accessibility Management Program and at the same time make the call for businesses to further their knowledge and accessibility to cater for more hidden disabilities and thus improve revenue.

70% of the disabled population has a 'hidden' disability. A hidden disability is defined as any condition that may require additional support but is not initially obvious, such as autism, Alzheimer’s disease, ADHD, or dyslexia.

Our webinar discussed how to innovate through diversity, the business benefits of greater accessibility and how businesses can focus more on the person than the disability. We had a number of fantastic guest speakers including Magnus Berglund, Accessibility Expert, Anna Sandberg Falk from IKEA, Roko Kursar, chairman of the functional support committee for the city of Malmö and successful para-athlete and author Fatmir Seremeti.

Improving accessibility in a workplace or public space is not just a ‘nice’ thing to do, it is the right thing to do. The Handiscover Accessibility Management Program exists to help companies work with and improve accessibility in an easy way and improve the day-to-day lives of millions of people who live with a disability, 70% of whom have a ‘hidden’ accessibility need.” says Magnus Berglund, Accessibility Expert.

"Ever since we launched Handiscover, our aim has simply been to use accessibility data to make booking accommodation easier for those with disabilities. We now want to take the knowledge and experience we have working with those with accessibility needs and expand to more public spaces and businesses such as restaurants, City Halls, Libraries or even aircraft and airports. We want to let businesses know that improving accessibility is not a cost burden, but a means to actually improve business by catering to more customers”, says Sebastien Archambeaud CEO of Handiscover.

The UN has declared 3rd December as the International Day of Disabled People since 1992, and the 2020 theme is ‘Building Back Better’. Handiscover hopes to see the Tourism and Hospitality sectors to build back with better accessibility and inclusion to all people with accessibility needs.
